Abstract: | There is a considerable mismatch between the distance technical-professional training curriculum at Monitor Internacional School and the current demands of the labor market. Employers demand that candidates for the position of technician be able to put their knowledge into action, not only transferring their accumulated learning but continually renewing it. The study investigated how it would be possible, through a curriculum review, to design and implement distance telecommunication courses that “produce” graduates with renewable practical skills required by the labor market. In order to achieve the research objective, the principles of instructional design that underpin the adoption of a competency-based curriculum, articulated in the labor market, were first explored through the literature review. These principles resulted in a checklist which, in turn, allowed the review of the current program and the development of an alternative that takes into account the demands of the labor market. Developmental research was seen as the most suitable for a project that aims to obtain an intervention product and focused on the analysis of the labor market, the evaluation of existing curriculum and the design and testing of an alternative module. Therefore, interviews were conducted and questionnaires applied to find out the opinions of employers, students and technicians who had already graduated from this school. Based on the evaluation of the curriculum and the testing of the revised module, it is concluded that the competency-based curriculum is an adequate model for distance technical-professional training, as it is a way to establish a relationship with the labor market using materials from self-instruction and an autonomous approach, oriented towards the development of skills in future professionals. Thus, there is a need to carry out a cyclical and continuous review of instructional materials taking into account the dynamics of the employment market (TRADUÇÃO NOSSA) |
